The teacher who is attempting
to teach without inspiring the pupil to learn is
hammering on cold iron.

Education....

Bachelor of Arts
- Midland Lutheran College
Major - Secondary Education / English
Minor - French / Journalism
Midland provided a rich and very
personal education. The English department was
staffed by a small group of scholars who saw teaching as
a calling and treated the students as partners with whom
to share their love of great literature and of learning.
Opportunities for me included study abroad, the chance
to serve as editor for the college yearbook, as well as
various leadership roles on campus.
Master of Arts
- Ohio
University
International Relations:
African Studies
This was an interdisciplinary program where I combined
economics, geography, and history. Like Midland,
this was a small program that supported each student in
a professional, yet personal way. It recruited
returned Peace Corps volunteers and foreign students.
This made the student body a most interesting and
diverse group. Opportunities included
international field study, work as both a teaching
assistant in cartography and as administrative assistant
to the Geography department head, and various roles in
student government. Though I never pursued a
career in development or international work, the
knowledge and experience from this program has enriched
my teaching in immeasurable ways.
Master
of Science in Education -
Instructional Technology - MSEd
University of
Nebraska at Kearney
I am in my final semester
and have found the program to be the very thing that I
have needed to launch me into the 21st century.
After nearly two decades in education, my methods were a
bit dated. This program has gained for me an
endorsement in Educational Media, which has resulted in
a job change, from English classroom to the media
center. Additionally, it has caused me to think
about instructional delivery in new ways, looking at how
technology can enhance what we do
