DARE: Mobile lab integration days
  • One day per semester
  • Classes signed up for a time slot
  • Lesson, materials, technology, and support was all delivered to the room
  • Many follow-up experiences included:
    • Cross-age “Buddy” projects
    • Continuation of projects without support

DARE: Technology Training Nights
  • Technology Training offered in various areas such as: digital cameras, Powerpoint, SMARTboards, etc.
  • Teachers could attend training or complete work time on technology-integrated projects
  • Small stipends offered

DARE: Mentors / “TST”
  • “Technology Support Team” consisted of staff members who attended technology workshops
  • Each TST was partnered with a small group of staff members
  • Assisted in planning technology-integrated lessons as well as answering small questions that came up day to day.

Technology-rich classrooms show observable changes, such as…
  • Shift from whole-class to small group instruction
  • Coaching rather than lecture and recitation
  • Teachers work with weaker students more while brighter students develop independently
  • Students are more actively engaged
  • Students are more cooperative and less competitive
  • Students learn different things instead of all students learning the same thing (Differentiation)
  • Integration of both visual and verbal thinking instead of primarily verbal thinking
