SMART Board Tips, Tricks, and Time-Savers

Simple ways to get the most out of your SMART Board

 

Notebook:

 

  1. Shapes-

Do Line width and Fill Color before drawing

or switch to arrow and then change the shape.

 

  1. Layering Shapes

Draw-Order- Send Backward, etc.

 

  1. Pen width/line width

 

  1. Backgrounds:  Select object (click on it)

Draw-Order-Make background

Draw-Order-Retrieve background

 

  1. Lock drawing objects

Ctrl-Click; then Draw- Group

 

  1. Insert Picture:
    1. Insert-Clip Art (both clip art and picture from file)
    2. Insert- Picture from Scanner

 

  1. Scan Worksheets:

            Make background or retrieve

 

  1. Clip Gallery

File- Open

 

  1. Create a new Gallery Collection:

File- New

Name the collection and save it

Drag pictures into gallery

 

 

  1. Separate Text objects

While typing: Click the mouse in between each object (hitting enter will not do it)

Drawing objects: Draw – Ungroup

 

  1. Working with Word:

Copy text: Select text, Edit-Copy, Go to Notebook, Edit-Paste

Copy graphics: Right-click on graphic, Edit-Copy

To use handwriting recognition: Write with a pen, click the buttons that pop up to insert your annotations.

 

  1. Working with the Web:

Copy text: Same as above

Copy graphics: Same as above

When you cannot right-click on a graphic, use screen capture (see below).

-outside Notebook

  Click on the pen to use the camera button, then remember to click back on the arrow before retrieving your screen capture from Notebook.  Copy and paste will take the graphic most anywhere.

 

 

 

  1. Screen shade vs. Spotlight

Screen Shade:  in Notebook

Spotlight:  on the Floating Tools palette

 

  1. Hyperlinks
    1. Copy and paste the URL(web address) into Notebook
    2. Click on object to be linked, Insert-Hyperlink, then type the URL

 

  1. Attachments

(Bottom-right-hand corner of Notebook.)

    1. Insert – File  OR b. Insert – Shortcut to File

 

  1. Make a pen into a highlighter

SMART Board Tools (on taskbar), Control Panel, Pen Tray

User Profiles: Save As..

(to save for next time)

 

 

  1. Save as images/website/etc. (Export)
    1. File- Save page as Template (Use as a background over and over again by clicking Insert – Browse for Page Template)
    2. File - Export

As images: JPEG

As webpages: HTML

As Adobe Acrobat files: PDF

 

  1. To erase a large amount quickly (and without the audience seeing)

1. Zoom in very close.  (Click more than once)

2. Use the eraser to make a complete circle (stay on the screen) and tap on the inside of it.

 

*You can also use the Zoom feature for fine details of a drawing object.

 

20.  Grow Page (bottom of Notebook page) will give you more length—but use caution, because the longer the page, the smaller it will be in Full Screen View.
