8^th Grade Reading

  Welcome to 8^th Grade Reading !  This quarter we will be working to increase reading comprehension, vocabulary knowledge, and critical reading skills. We will be using several resources to reach our reading improvement goals.

1.  Achieve 3000  -- a program that allows students to read and respond to nonfiction articles online.

2.  Scope Magazine -- a teen-oriented educational publication

3.  The Outsiders – a young adult novel

Students will also be doing a variety of additional reading and vocabulary activities to improve their reading skills.

Grading - Students will be graded using a point system. 

Teenbiz reading activities – 16 points each week   (1 point per question)

Teenbiz thought – 10 points each week (rubric)

Daily Test Taking Skill Builders – 1 point each

Vocabulary Quizzes – 2 points per question

Outsiders Test – 100 points

Other assignments – 5-20 points depending on the difficulty or number of items
