PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Blended Learning & Project-Based Learning Seminar

Do you collaborate with other teachers on projects? Do you incorporate project/challenge based learning in your classroom? Would you like to invite community involvement in your school or class? Are you integrating technology throughout student learning? If you said yes to any of these questions, OR if you said, “GEE, I would like to do that” this 3 day course is for YOU!!

Professional Development staff from ESU 1, ESU 17 and ESU 8, are providing this professional development opportunity for teams of 2-4 teachers from a district to learn best practices in Blended Learning and Project/Challenge based learning. The 3 face-to-face meetings will be at the Life Long Learning Center in Norfolk from 9 AM – 3 PM on November 27, 2018, February 12, 2019 and March 22, 2019. Carl D. Perkins funds will cover travel costs, lunch and up to $2,000 per team to enhance and/or create a project for their classroom.

Registration will close September 28, 2018 or when the class is full. It is open to CTE teachers working together, CTE teachers with core teachers, CTE teachers working with fine arts teachers, and/or a combination of the above. REGISTER HERE: http://bit.ly/BlendEDPBL

Scholarships and Grants

Professional Development Scholarships — OPENING AUGUST 1, 2018

The ESU 8 Perkins Consortium is once again providing grants to your district to offset the cost of professional development for Career Technical Educators. Do you want to attend an in-state conference (NNNC, NCE, NSCA, NETA),a regional or national conference (ACTE – Region 5)…..APPLY HERE!

The applications are on a first-come, first-served basis as there are limited grant funds available. The application will remain open until all of the monies are expended. Carl D. Perkins funds will reimburse districts up to $1,000 per person. This includes: Conference Registration (conference and/or pre-conference), lodging, meals, transportation, etc. Teacher’s can apply more than once, but cannot exceed $1,000 in a calendar year. Reimbursement will be based on actual receipts (provide all receipts and registration to your bookkeeper.) Attendees are responsible for all conference attendance arrangements. Conferences need to be attended between August 1 – June 10. Substitute pay WILL NOT be reimbursed this year.

The Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act of 2006 (Perkins IV) is a principal source of federal funding to states and discretionary grantees for the improvement of secondary and postsecondary career and technical education programs across the nation. The purpose of the Act is to develop more fully the academic, career, and technical skills of secondary and postsecondary students who elect to enroll in career and technical education programs.
