ESU #8 . . . Honoring the Past, Celebrating in the Present, and Looking to the Future!
Featuring ESU #8 Network Services Director, Jim Dow!
Jim Dow has been employed by Educational Service Unit #8 for the past 16 years. He began working in several areas. The first summer, he conducted inspections on all ESU #8 schools for compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Jim was also an Asbestos Consultant for ESU #8. He trained school personnel on asbestos, provided consulting services on the federal mandated asbestos inspections, wrote asbestos project designs for the removal of asbestos, and presided over many asbestos projects and building demolitions. During this time, Jim was also in charge of water sampling in schools. He even established a new computer accounting system for the ESU #8 Special Education Department.
In 1996, Jim took over the Internet & Computer Repair Department. At that time, the Internet Department had one server that handled everything. Today, Jim manages twelve servers that furnish email, web hosting, web filtering, SPAM filtering and other services to ESU #8 schools.
Jim received his Associate of Arts degree from Miltonvale Wesleyan College and his B.A. in Education with a major in Industrial Arts and a Vocational Endorsement from Kearney State College. Before joining the ESU #8 staff, Jim taught Industrial Arts in Orchard, farmed north of Orchard for several years, and started Venus Consulting, a private company that did asbestos inspections and asbestos removal in schools. |
