WSC Language Arts Festival continued from page 1

Writing Contest, Grades 7 - 12
Students in grades seven through twelve are invited to submit original short stories or poems to a Writing Contest. The deadline for these submissions is February 17, 2006. Written works must be submitted as electronic copies. Students who submit entries are not required to attend the Festival.

The best submissions for each grade level will be published in an Anthology. Students whose work is included in the Anthology will receive a free copy of the Anthology.

The best story and poem from each grade, 7 - 12, will receive a cash prize. The recipient of the first place story prize for grade twelve will receive a $500 scholarship to Wayne State College.

Students who attend the Festival will have an opportunity to:

  • Interact with professional writers
  • Interact with other student writers
  • Attend presentations by authors and professionals
  • Participate in interactive workshops
  • Attend an awards banquet

On-Site Competitions, Grades 7-12
Students will be invited to submit entries in various categories - such as exhibits, performances of original dramas, and videos. These will be presented and evaluated at Wayne State College on Friday, March 31. These students will have the opportunity to:

  • Present their projects to evaluators
  • Interact with other students who are interested in literature, reading, and writing
  • Attend presentations by authors and professionals
  • Participate in interactive workshops
  • Attend an awards banquet
