The mission of Educational Service Unit #8 is to provide educational leadership and services that improve teaching and learning through quality partnerships. Located in Neligh, Nebraska, Educational Service Unit #8 is an intermediate agency providing supplementary services to K-12 school districts. This Unit serves Antelope, Boyd, Holt, Madison, Pierce, Stanton, and Wheeler counties.

ESU #8 . . . Honoring the Past, Celebrating in the Present, and Looking to the Future!

Featuring ESU #8 Staff Development Director, Carol Jessen!

Carol Jessen is currently in her 25th year with ESU #8. She was hired in 1983 to develop and coordinate the newly established Educational Technology Department. She served as chairperson of this department until 1990. At that time, Carol assumed the role of Staff Development Director. In this position, she is active in grant writing and implementation, school improvement facilitation, along with curriculum, instruction, and assessment work. She serves on numerous state-appointed task forces and is a certified NCA Ambassador for the North Central Accreditation Association. Carol also serves as adjunct faculty for Wayne State College.

Carol graduated from Wayne State College with both a BAE and MSE in Business Education. She has completed courses toward an endorsement in administration and has earned a certificate endorsement in Assessment Leadership from UNL in 2004.

Prior to joining ESU #8 Carol taught at Wayne State College in the Business Administration Department, primarily focusing on instruction of computer programming languages and systems analysis. She also has taught Data Processing for Northeast Community College and Business Education for Osmond Community Schools. She has done extensive training for educators on Steven Glenn's Developing Capable People and Stephen Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Carol says, “Facilitation of these classes and the resulting relationships built with teachers are among the top highlights of my career”.
