Presents

“From L to J” with Dr. Lee Jenkins
April 8-9, 2008 • 9:00 - 3:00

This two-day training is an opportunity to learn a system that can be immediately used in the classroom.

The results inform students of their personal progress in learning targets for the class and inform teachers regarding students' mastery of those targets. Many schools use this approach as one of their School Improvement strategies.

Other teachers just want to see where their students are learning important concepts, processes, and factual information for a subject area.

Principals and teachers will find the quantitative connections between standards-aligned curriculum objectives, instruction, and assessment help students develop the intrinsic motivation necessary to improve academic achievement.

Dr. Lee Jenkins, a dynamic former school superintendent, models strategies that teachers are able to immediately implement with students. The author of Permission to Forget: And Nine Other Root Causes of America’s Frustration with Education, Lee describes the deep-seated problems built into America’s classrooms that educators can solve.

Training concepts include:

  • The three basic graphs that help teachers, students and administrators see learning progress and diagnose stumbling blocks
  • Sampling techniques that reduce teacher workload while improving the quality of information available for instructional decision-making
  • Tools for data analysis for use in the classroom, the parent conference, the building, the program or content area, and the district

Suggested team: Administrator, SAC chairs, CCC or School Improvement Team members, and assessment & curriculum coordinators
