A Research Based Classroom Intervention

Where: ESU #8 in Neligh

Trainer: Becky Brandl

When: Thursday, May 31st from 9:00-3:30

Audience: First Grade Teachers and School Psychologists

Cost: $20 ($35 teacher manuals + $140 stipend will be paid by grant funds)

Maximum: 25 teachers

First Grade PALS includes two components:

  • a continuation of Sounds and Words decoding activities from K-PALS
  • introduces Partner Reading, a fluency-building activity

The training will:

  • include a brief presentation summarizing research findings
  • provide hands-on practice of all First Grade PALS activities
  • incorporate a simulation of a First Grade PALS classroom during training, teacher-directed lessons, and peer-mediated practice

The comprehensive teacher manual provides necessary materials that will enable first grade teachers to confidently implement PALS in their own classrooms next fall.

First-Grade PALS is a supplement to the districts’ core reading program. It is implemented with the whole class 3 times a week for approximately 35-40 minutes a day.

PALS Reading has been approved by the U.S. Department of Education's Program Effectiveness for inclusion in the National Diffusion Network of effective educational practices.

Please register online no later than Friday, May 4th so that materials may be ordered.
