First
Grade PALS includes two components:
- a continuation
of Sounds and Words decoding activities from K-PALS
- introduces
Partner Reading, a fluency-building activity
The training
will:
- include a
brief presentation summarizing research findings
- provide hands-on
practice of all First Grade PALS activities
- incorporate
a simulation of a First Grade PALS classroom during training,
teacher-directed lessons, and peer-mediated practice
The comprehensive
teacher manual provides necessary materials that will enable first
grade teachers to confidently implement PALS in their own classrooms
next fall.
First-Grade
PALS is a supplement to the districts’
core reading program. It is implemented with the
whole class 3 times a week for approximately 35-40 minutes a day.
PALS Reading
has been approved by the U.S. Department of Education's Program
Effectiveness for inclusion in the National Diffusion Network of
effective educational practices.
