Participants will:
- examine the current research on phonemic awareness.
- learn the difference between phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, phonemes, and phonics
- learn the importance of rhyme and alliteration for increasing phonemic awareness.
- learn how to teach onset and rime.
- examine literature books that can be used to emphasize phonemic awareness.
- practice strategies to assess students’ phonemic awareness.
