Educators interested in improving the quality and effectiveness of their programs in developing early literacy foundations.

Participants will:

  • examine the current research on phonemic awareness.
  • learn the difference between phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, phonemes, and phonics
  • learn the importance of rhyme and alliteration for increasing phonemic awareness.
  • learn how to teach onset and rime.
  • examine literature books that can be used to emphasize phonemic awareness.
  • practice strategies to assess students’ phonemic awareness.
