Meriwether Lewis

Did you know that Meriwether Lewis and William Clark were given up for lost? After the Louisiana Purchase it became urgent to find a route to the Pacific Ocean. In 1804 they left ST. Louis and stayed with the Mandan Indians. Sacagawea helped guide them through the Rockies. They made it to the Pacific Ocean by canoes. On the return trip Clark took the Yellowstone River & Lewis took the Marias river. They made it back to ST. Louis in September,1806. That is when they discovered that the expedition had been given up for lost.
