Course Description:

The purpose of this course is to investigate classroom applications and curriculum integration of Internet resources.  In doing so, educators will be provided with the technological skills to navigate the global superhighway, communicating and sharing information with others worldwide.

 

Materials:            Instructor Selected Handouts

                        Floppy disks optional for project storage

                        Internet access for online sessions

 

Course Objectives:

Weaving a Web of Learning

·         Educators will develop their own competencies in the field of the Internet.

·         Educators will explore Internet resources available for their respective areas of interest.

·         Educators will develop simple educational applications for using the Internet.

·         Educators will apply the technology tools they acquire to content and student guided learning to achieve positive educational results.

·         Educators will assess Internet resources for appropriateness and explore numerous resources for assistance with technology integration.

·         Educators will comfortably evaluate student learning when the Internet is utilized.

Course Requirements:

Ø       Students will actively participate in all hands-on exploration activities.

Ø       Students will archive quality Internet websites discovered or explored while in the class and share these with other educators.

Ø       Students will develop a collection of simple activities utilizing the Internet that apply to their content/interest area.  These activities will include:

o        Surf Reports (website reviews)

o        One-computer activity task cards

o        Internet scavenger hunts

o        Web Quests

o        Hot lists of websites

o        (Advanced Students may choose to replace simpler projects with a combination of skills or create a professional website for utilizing the Internet within their educational setting)

Ø       Students will create an online log of time spent on the Internet and share findings with others through class email list.
