New Directions in Creativity and Thinking Skills In Kindergarten and first grade I will do whole group activities to develop creative thinking abilities in children. I will meet with the Kindergarten class once each week for half an hour beginning the second semester. I will meet with first grade class once each week for half an hour for the entire school year. Activities will allow children to do divergent thinking, providing opportunities for their minds to flow across a broad range of ideas and possible solutions to a problem. The focus will be on creativity in Science and Social Studies using the Kindergarten and first grade standards. The four areas of creative thought that we will develop are as follows: *Fluency~ This is the ability to generate a flow of ideas, possibilities, consequences, and objects *Flexibility~ Many different approaches or strategies in solving a problem *Originality~ The ability to produce clever, unique, or unusual responses *Elaboration~ The ability to expand and develop ideas, stories, and illustrations
