Ariel’s Diary

Today was SUPER! I got to hang out with Katie Stepp. She and I did a bunch of exciting and awesome things. It started this morning when Mollie dropped me off with Katie, and we went in Mrs. Young’s room. We sat around and read A.R. for a while; Katie let me read her book with her. It was pretty interesting; it was about horses and horse racing. That was neat to read about. We read for ten or fifteen minutes then we said the Pledge of Allegiance. Mrs. Young said, “It will be a regular Wednesday, nothing out of the ordinary” and then we lined up for our first class, reading.

We walked in and Katie got her book, Mrs. Kloppenborg said, “Start reading”. Katie was reading Call of the Wild and she let me read some. Her group and she thought the book was confusing, and I would have to agree. So I sat by Katie most of the time. Plus there were some parts in it that I didn’t like at all, and I don’t think you want to know about them either.

After reading was science, and it was really “sweet”. We made edible rocks; well it was really candy to demonstrate how igneous rocks formed out of the Earth. Those were some good rocksJ.

Katie and I had to leave science early because Katie had a doctor’s appointment. So I got to see the doctor’s office. Her doctor said that she could eat red dye but if she got red blotches then Katie needed to let the doctor know.  I then got to meet Katie’s mom, Kay, also. She seems awfully nice, and I can’t wait to meet the rest of the family.

When we got back to school it was 10:00, and we went to music. We got in and class was about over. We were in there for 15 or 20 minutes, and while we were there I sat with Rylee for a while.

Then we left and we went to Mrs. Morrow’s Language class, the class Katie told me was her favorite, and I would probably have to agree. In Mrs. Morrow’s room we used the Palms, and we got to play giraffe on them. Katie and I got a pretty high score, but not too high. It was only like 589, but it was groovy. Everyone in her class got gum because of their perfect test scores; I didn’t eat any though because it is WAY too stickyJ.

Then was most kids’ favorite subject… lunchJ!  Katie had a cheeseburger with ketchup and pickles. It was ok but I would just soon have a big juicy steakJ. I got to get my picture taken in the lunch line and at the lunch tables. It was cool! Well we dumped our trays, bundled up in warm outside clothes, and headed out.

At recess it was FREEZING!!! We went over to the football field with Haley, Rylee, and Bobbi. I didn’t want to play football too much so I stayed with those girls while I watched Katie and all the other kids play. It was fun to watch them all running back and forth.

Well the recess people blew the whistle and we dashed to line up. We went in and our noses and cheeks warmed the second we came in.

Off to Guidance with Mrs. Schueth next. We talked about ways we put off doing homework, and we listed different ways different kids do it.

When Mrs. Young came back into the room we started math. First we did math facts in a flash. Katie didn’t have to because she had finished, so we read some more of her book.  Then they did math and I sat and watched Katie. They were multiplying decimals by 1, 10, 100, and 1,000.  That was kind of neat, and I tried some in my head.

Next was Social Studies, where we reviewed New Netherlands and New Sweden. I had trouble thinking of the answers. Then they were assigned a worksheet. Next the kids went to band and people not in band had study hall. I read a book while Katie did her homework. Before I knew it, it was 3:15 and Katie and I went to publishing pros in Mrs. Morrow’s class, where Katie, Haley, and I made a brochure of O’Neill.

At 4:15 Katie’s mom came and picked us up and we went to her house.  We had chocolate chip cookies for snack and watched TV while we ate our snack.  Next Katie showed me around her house and then we went up to her room.

At 5:30 we went to Katie’s piano lesson.  I met her piano teacher, Toni Schneider, then I listened to Katie play her songs.  She played four or five songs and then it was time to go home. While we waited we talked to Katie’s 5th or 6th cousin, so I kind of met Katie’s family that didn’t live in the same house. Katie’s oldest brother Michael picked us up and took us home.  When we walked in the door I could smell fried chicken and hash browns.  It smelled delicious but I only ate a little bit.

At 7:00 we went to CCD or church where we read about the 4 virtues, which are: Justice, Fortitude, Prudence, and Temperance. It was hard to under stand the reading but I like saying the words.  Katie’s church class seems fun because the teacher laughs with the kids. I liked that church because we also got to play “heads up 7 up” which Katie said her classmate and her taught the teacher and students from other schools how to play.

When we got home we had a bedtime snack, and played on the computer. When Katie typed this up for me her computer went wacko and erased more than half of it so she had to start almost completely over. Then when she got it done we went upstairs and got ready for bed, and before we went to bed Katie told me she was kind of a wild sleeper so I slept in a little bed next to hers.

A loud beeping sound woke me up in the morning… it was Katie’s alarm. We got up, got ready to go downstairs, went downstairs, ate tractor tire donuts, brushed teeth and hair, got bundled up, got into Michael’s gray ford pickup and drove to school. Then Katie switched me with another new friend to spend the day and night with. That is how my day and night with Katie and her family was, and I look forward to all the other families I am going to stay with.
