| Snow was falling when I Peter
O’man a settler from the middle colonies was walking home from the pasture
and saw an elderly woman sitting by a rusty pole coughing. I gave the old
woman the have of my cornbread from my lunch ma got me.
That night I got home late because of the heavy snow, mom said that grandma O’man got a boat ride over, so we have lots of cleaning. That next morning I cleaned the fireplace, washed dishes, and fed baby Sue, Then I was off to the fields when I saw the elderly lady trudging threw the snow so I gave her have a sandwich that I took out of the rusty metal pale at a split second I thought she looked familiar , but I had to get to work. |
That night pa asked if anyone had seen grandma, but everyone said they hadn’t. And when I looked out the window I thought I had a hunch who she was, so I let her in but pap didn’t think she was.
Later on we found out who she was, she was Aunt Cindy, she had came to say that grandma had died in a shipwreck.
The next morning we cried and cried then Aunt Cindy gave me the watch grandma gave to her.
Even though grandma is gone we are thankful to have Aunt
Cindy to tell us stories about Ireland.
