Dovey Coe,
by Frances O'Roarke Dowell

Why you should read this book:
- Dovey, the middle child in her middle-class family, wishes many
things. She wishes she didn't have to be a proper lady; she wishes her
deaf brother Amos wasn't judged to be stupid; and she wishes her older, more
beautiful sister would spend less time around Parnell Calloway. After
an exciting what-we-think-to-be-climax at a goodbye party for Caroline the
action and the plot proceeds to intensify as Dovey now has another wish: she
wishes Parnell dead. Little does she know that that is just what will
happen and that everyone will think the murderer is her. What will
this outspoken girl say now?
Story Strengths:
- I read this book and included it in the site because a couple of sixth
grade girls voted it their favorite book EVER!
- Dialogue makes the story
realistic
Who would love this book:
- Those who like a little murder mystery!
- Those who like to see the "bad guy" get what he deserves
- Those who are interested in the law and court trials
