Hi! I am Eleanor Roosevelt. I was born in New
York City on October 11, 1884.
I was shy. My uncle was President Theodore Roosevelt. I was raised
by my grandmother after the death of my parents. After my husband died,
I married a distant cousin, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, on March 17, 1905.
I had six children. My husband was elected as a governor in 1928. I had
five children. I had Elliot (born in 1910), Franklin Jr. (1914), James
(1907), John, and Anna (1906). I had a maid to take of our children. I
traveled 40,000 miles when I was the first lady.
With America’s entry into the World War II, I began
visiting U.S. troops at the front and wounded soldiers in hospitals.
I often carried personal messages back to their families. I was like a
mother to the world. I work in the Red Cross. I was always ahead of my
time. I talk with the white women to let blacks in. I worked for the United
Nations. I died at my home in New York City on November 7, 1962 at the
age of 75. I was buried next to Franklin at Hyde Park on November 10.
