Harriet Tubman

Did you know I freed more than 300 slaves? Hello my
name is Harriet Tubman (though people called me Minty.) I loved to tell stories
that my mother would tell me. I grew up and got married to John Tubman. After I
got married John I escaped from slavery; and I eventually came back and my
husband John was remarried. I became head nurse, commander of Intelligence
operations in the Union Army, and a spy. I would dress up like a man or a fancy
lady so I would not be caught. In 1903 I gave my house to my church. I once
asked if I could give a speech with Susan B. Anthony, and Elizabeth Cady
Stanton. I got a letter, medal, and black silk shawl from Queen Victoria of
England. All of this great stuff I did made me very proud, and helped others as
well.
