Wright Brothers

O. Did you know that the first motor powered airplane had a 12 horsepower engine?
W. Hello I’m Wilbur,
O. And I’m Orville,
W.O. and were the Wright brothers.
W. People think that we finished school and went to college.
O. But actually neither of us went to college,
W. And I dropped out of high school.
O. But we still had the brains to invent the first motor powered heavier-than-air aircraft.
W. Which we called “ The Flyer”.
W. But before our business with flight we ran a bicycle shop.
O. We made our own model “the Wright cycle”.
W. That’s where we got our mechanical skills.
O. We stumbled upon flying when I read about a man who died when he was flying gliders.
W. He held many records and we thought we could bat him.
O. So we studied flying and gliders.
W. Once we knew we had enough information, we went to Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.
O. When we tried flying our first glider, it went straight down.
W. We did more tests and discovered the right wing warping.
O. Once we had the information it was back to Kitty Hawk.
W. There we had successful flights but we wanted more.
O. We went back to Dayton Ohio and constructed a 4-cylinder 12 horsepower lightweight engine to go with our 16-foot wingspan glider to make it a biplane.
W. It was the first heavier than air aircraft.
O. So it was back to Kitty Hawk.
W. We the Wright brothers made the first motor powered flight.
O. Success!!!
