George
Washington Carver

-
By David A.
Who ever thought a black sick looking slave would make any inventions.
Well I did. Hello I am George Washington Carver. I was born around
1864 near
Diamond Grove
,
Missouri
, on the farm of Moses Carver. My childhood was difficult.
My mother was a slave to Moses Carver. I did not know my father but I
believed he was a slave on a neighboring farm. When I was an infant my
mother and I were kidnapped by night raiders and they took us to
Arkansas
. I was found and went back to Moses and Susan Carver who adopted me. I
was sickly from whooping cough so I did not have to do any hard labor like
the other slaves. I loved to work in the garden and I became interested in
plants. I taught myself to read. When I was 11 I walked eight miles to go
to
Lincoln
School
for Blacks in
Neosho
,
Missouri
. I moved to a lot of other Midwestern cities. I wanted to go to
Highland
College
but they would not accept me because I was black, so I went to
Simpson
College
. After I went to
Simpson
College
for a few years I went to
Iowa
State
University
. After I graduated from
Iowa
State
University
, I taught there for a while. Then one day I got a letter from Booker T.
Washington. He wanted me to teach at his school, Tuskegee Institute. I
agreed. I taught black students and farmers about crop rotation. I created
325 products from peanuts, 108 from sweet potatoes, and 75 from derived
pecans. In 1939 President Franklin D. Roosevelt gave me a medal for my
discoveries in science. I loved science so much I donated my life savings
($30,000) to science. I died January 5,1943.

Clara
Barton

-
by Molly A.
Do
you know who was called the Angle of the battlefield during the civil war?
I t was me Clara Barton.I was born In 1821 on Christmas day as a young
girl I was very shy and because of that my brothers and sisters
taught me my school lessons instead of going to school .Then
when I was around ten my parents had me go to a public school. After
that when I was eleven my brother fell from the barn roof and I nursed him
back to health. When he was well I started teaching at a one room school.
When I was thirty- two I went to
Washington
because I thought that the warmer climate than
Massachusetts
would heal my throat. Then the Civil war began. During the Civil war I
gathered a lot of supplies for the soldiers such as blankets, food and
medical supplies and cared for the wounded . Then after the war I went to
Europe
. There I found out about a organization called the International
Red Cross that helps those wounded in war. I thought that that might be a
good idea for the
United States
. So when I went back to
America
I tried to convince
America
to sign a agreement called the Geneva Treaty that helps people wounded or
killed in war. So the
United States
singed the Treaty In 1882.But I wanted more. I decided that it should be
for people in their time of need and in war , not just in war. After my
years of
service
in the war, I went home with pneumonia and died in 1912. But the most
important thing about me was I founded The American Red Cross. |
Anne
Frank

-
by Laura L.
How
would it feel if you had to go into hiding because of your religion and
couldn't tell anyone where you where? I Annelise Frank had to do this for
three years because of my Jewish faith and World War II. I couldn’t talk
or go downstairs during the daylight -Only at night and very quietly. I
could never go outside. Almost every day I wrote in my diary my thoughts,
words, and dreams. But, on August 4, Hitler's men found out where we were
hiding in the attic, behind a revolving bookcase and took us to
Websterbork. There my family and I had to shave our hair off and wear a
red patch on our clothes. Later our family got split up and everyone died.
Except my dad, who published my diary, which lives on today.

Who do you think was not only the first Girl Scout but the best? It is me
Juliette Gordon Low. That quote was sent to me by a girl scout a long time
ago. I was born on October 31,1860. I got my nickname from my uncle
because all the Lows have nicknames. After I met the founder of the Boy
Scouts, Sir Robert Baden- Powell I was convinced me to start a program for
girls. In 1915 she became the 1st president but 5 years resigned and took
the official title as the founder of the Girl Scouts. The Girl Scouts were
first called the Girl Guides in
England
. I graduated from 3 schools including finishing school. On January17,1927
I tragically died from cancer. I was buried with the telegram from a Girl
Scout a long time ago. Next time a Girl Scout comes to your door
selling cookies or peanuts think of me Juliette Gordon Low as known as

Walt
Disney

by Connor P.
Whoever
thought a guy could get famous by drawing a mouse. Well I did.
Walt Disney’s my name drawings my game.
I
was born in 1902 in
Chicago
,
Illinois
. When I was in the mid teens I was inspired by Charlie Chaplin (An Actor)
and I even got to sit Charlie Chaplin in a restaurant. Everyone
loved his acting.
I
started to draw in my farm in
Marceline
,
Missouri
. I tried to get a job in Laugh-O-Gram Films (an animating film
studio for theaters) and got the job, then became president of it.
My brother Roy went to war and I went bankrupt. When
Roy
was in the war he got tuberculosis and I visited him to see him and get
money. After
Roy
got out of the hospital, We started Disney Brothers Studios. During the
Great Depression everyone was out of the job except Disney Brother Studios
and increased their staff from 150 to 750. I drew up a mouse called
Oswald and all the animators that worked with Oswald signed a secret
contract with Universal saying Oswald was theirs and I had to give him up.
I let them have it and kept thinking of another animal to take Oswald's
place. It was called Mickey Mouse. Mickey Mouse got a medal for a symbol
International good will. I got more than 30 Academy awards and 700 other
awards, medals, and trophies. I died on December 16, 1966. If
you have ever saw a Disney movie think of me.

Amelia
Earhart

-
by
Alexandria
H.
Have
you ever wondered how miraculous it would feel to be zooming over seas in
an old, rickety plane? Well, I, Amelia Earhart, welcome you to my
wonderful world of flying! During the year of 1928, when I was just 31
years old, I became the first woman ever to fly my plane solo across the
Atlantic Ocean
. Additionaly, on July 2, 1937, my plane was lost over the
Pacific Ocean
when I was embarking on my round-the-world journey. Also, when I was only
14 years of age, I set a record of flying 14,000 feet up and into the air,
which is more then 2,000 miles. In fact, I finished 3rd in the Women's Air
Derby in 1929. But certainly, above all, I had proved to both men and
women that having much bravery and being smart wasn't only a capability
for men to have.

Charles
Lindbergh

-
by Luke L.
Have
you ever flown over one of the biggest oceans in the world, well I'm the
first person who has!
I,
Charles Lindbergh was born in Little Falls,
Minnesota
in 1902 to the parents of Charles and Evangeline Lindbergh. When I was a
child I dreamed of flying my own airplane. I went to college for a couple
of years but dropped out, I didn't think college was for me. My first job
was as a mechanic building a tractor from the ground up, and at the end,
it worked. But later I became bored and started working as a barnstormer
where I did tricks off the wing of an airplane . I wanted to accomplish
making 2 parachutes go off at once. It DID NOT WORK. You probably won't
believe me but I started delivering airmail as my 3rd job but I crashed in
a bean field in
Nebraska
. All this led to my fame and fortune. On May 20th, 1927 I was getting
ready to take off, The time was 7:54 , eastern daytime hours, I left for
Paris
,
France
. At 10: 24,
Paris
time, on May 21, 1927, the Spirit of St. Louis landed. The 3,600-mile
flight had taken 33 1/2 hours and I made it alone. My years of fame are
over now but I still live in history.

Marie
Curie

by Kelsey A.
Have
you ever had a broken arm or leg? Without my research doctors wouldn't be
able to find out if you had a broken bone or not because I discovered
x-rays. Hi, I am Marie Curie! X-rays were one of the many things my
husband and I discovered.
When I was young my sister died of typhus fever and my mom died of a
serious lung disease called tuberculious. When will you graduate from high
school? I graduated when I was 15! When in college I received an
advanced degree in physics and mathematics. My first occupation was to
study the magnetism of various types of steel and that is how I met
Pierre
. When I went to college at
Sorbonne
University
to study Science I married a professor named Pierre Curie.
Pierre
, my husband, and I have been working in the lab for many long hours and
we finally discovered our predictions were right about the understanding
of atoms. Pierre and I were the first Polish people to win the Noble
Peace Prize in 1903 and 1911. I always dreamed of being a
scientist one day and having the ability to help people all around the
world. |

Three
billion 16 million dollars have been donated to charities because of me.
Can you guess who I am? I am Lady Diana Frances Spencer, also known as
Princess Diana. I was born on July 1st, 1961 in

. For a princess having a hard childhood seems unusual but I did. My
parents got divorced and I had many changes of nannies, one of them tried
to hurt my siblings and I. On July 29, 1981 I was pronounced husband and
wife with Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales. We had two children, Prince
Harry and Prince William. Taking after my parents I got divorced on August
1996. After my divorce I auctioned off 79 of my beautiful gowns and raised
3.25 billion dollars to give to charities. One year later I died in a car
accident on August 31. Even though I am dead lots of money is still being
given to charities all around the world, so help me out and donate to some
of those charities.

Milton
Hershey

-
by Molly S.
Do
you know that the secret to good chocolate is fresh milk? But shhhhh
don't tell anyone!
Hello my name is Milton Snavely Hershey, founder and owner of Hershey
chocolate. When I was 13 years old I became an apprentice of a newspaper
printer and later a confectionist, or candy maker. My boss Joe Royer is
who taught me the sensational ingredient in our caramels, fresh milk.
After about four years I thought it was time for me to go into the candy
making business for myself. After borrowing $150 from my Aunt Mattie I
rented a small brick shop to sell my candies, but after six years I went
bankrupt. I had several more tries at candy making but every
time I failed. Someone finally noticed my candy at the Chicago
World’s Fair. To mass produce my famous chocolate I made plans for
a huge factory, in
Pennsylvania
, and my very own town for the workers. My chocolate became famous!
It was even used in Ration D bars to provide emergency food for soldiers
in WW2. So today, when you eat a Kit Kat (named after my wife
Kitty), Krackle, or especially a Hershey’s bar, remember me and my hard
work and persistence. |
